Last Update 2 years ago

If you have signed up and are using the Freebike app, the price of using the bikes consists of tariff fees, a per minute fee if your journey lasts more than 20 minutes and a fee for parking outside of a station in relevant zone and possible penalties.

Tariffs

  • Monthly 29 €
  • Weekly 15 €
  • Daily 7 €
  • Pay as you go 0,15 € per minute
  • Tap and ride Helsinki 0,15 € per minute

All tariffs, except “Pay as you go” and “Tap and ride”, include a free 20-minute cycling period each time the Freebike is rented.

The bikes can be rented as many times you want during the tariff period.

Pricing example

If you rent the bike at 12:00 and return it to the city bike station at 12:19, you will not pay any additional usage fees.

With the Tap and Ride tariff, a pre-authorization of 10 € will be made on your card at the beginning of the ride and the pre-authorization will be cancelled at the end of the ride. Only the actual price of the rental for each minute of rental + possible additional charges will be charged on your card.

The use of Freebike may incur additional charges, which are automatically charged to the payment card connected to your user account or card used for renting the bike.

The reason for the additional fees may be:

1. Longer use of the bike

If you use the bike during one bike ride for more than 20 minutes with the monthly, weekly and daily tariff, you will be charged an additional fee according to the list you can find here: https://helsinki.freebike.com/tariffs.html

With the Tap and Ride tariff, the bike rental will terminate automatically after 55 minutes. If you want to ride for longer, end the rental at a station and then rent it again. You may have to wait for a few seconds between returning the bike and renting it again.

The Freebike can be used during one, continuous, cycle trip for up to 3 hours. If you exceed this period, you will be charged a late fee of EUR 100.

2. Return of a bike outside of a station

On the map (which you can find in the app or on the website https://helsinki.freebike.com/), areas that are shaded red are areas where you must return the bike to a virtual station, shown by the icon.

On the right-hand side of the digital handlebar bike display, you can see where the nearest station is – the arrow shows the direction and at the bottom you can see the distance to the station.

Elsewhere, you can either return to a virtual station free of charge or, for a fee of 1.50 Euro return outside the station.

3. Fines

If a city bike is not successfully returned within three hours from the start of the rental the user may be charged a fine up to 100 euros.
